Big One‎ > ‎

Seeding Information

We consider a fencer's USFA rating, previous year's Big One result, previous season's NEIFC Championship results, and submitted ranking order within their team to determine seeding codes for this tournament. Of the various points assigned for the various criteria (see below), the LOWEST value is used, and is used as the ranking order for a fencer.

Previous Season's Championship Result

Points awarded for top 12 placements in previous season's NEIFC Championships (Individual results only). Points do not carry across weapons.

As of the 2016 Championships, the format of the tournament changed to use a direct elimination for the top 8, with a tie for 3rd place. The table below has been updated for the 2016 Big One..

Previous Season's Big One Result

Points awarded for top 32 placements in previous season's Big One. Points do not carry from one weapon to the next. (Your 3rd place finish in sabre last year does nothing for you if you are now fencing epee.)

The Big One does not fence off for third place so there are two third place finishers and no fourth place finisher.

USFA Ratings

Ratings and associated points. Ratings do not carry across weapons. (Your "A" in epee does you no good if you are fencing in foil.)  No points are awarded for "U" ratings.

School Ranking

The higher a fencer is ranked on the roster, the higher the seeding factor. Multiply order submitted by 1000 to get this value.

  1. John Doe --> 1000 points
  2. John Deere --> 2000 points, etc.
